The Distinguished Terroir in the Mediterranean 希臘 ‒ 地中海上的微異風土

Greece is located between 34°N and 42°N, where warm and sunny terroir can be found anywhere across the country, the key to success with various styles of wine in this hot country is exploiting cool microclimates.

 

Grapes ripen more slowly in cooler mountainous vineyards, developing more interesting flavours as a result. Mantinia and Nemea can be good examples. Many of the white wines come from maritime location such as those on the island of Santorini. The humidity and strong winds blanket the island during the summer, bringing down the night-time temperatures which helps to preserve acidity in grapes. 

 

希臘位於北緯34至42度,溫暖明媚的地中海氣候覆蓋整幅國土,然而山巒起伏和島嶼眾多造成的地勢差異,為不同地區帶來獨特的微氣候,因此各區盛產的葡萄品種亦截然不同。

 

位於山區葡萄園,涼爽的土壤令葡萄緩慢地成熟,發展出複雜有趣的味道,比如Mantinia和Nemea是很好的例子;至於海島上的濕度及夏季期間的海風,亦有助葡萄保持酸度,造就出一如聖托里尼島的獨特風格。

Naoussa​

 

 

The place of origin and most important growing area of the indigenous Xinomavro. The lush vineyards here sit between 150 and 450m above sea and receive enough rainfall in most vintages. At least 25 different soil types are found here which gives its wine a breathtaking array of aromas and flavors, complex enough to make the most beguiling old world wines blush. 

 

Xinomavro的發源地和最重要的生長地區。這裡的葡萄園座落於海拔150至450米之間,降雨量充足,至少有25種不同的土壤類型,因此能釀造出香氣和味道令人驚嘆的葡萄酒,複雜度高,堪稱舊世界中最有魅力的葡萄酒之一。

Nemea

 

Besides the well-known mythological tale of Nemean Lion and Hercules, Nemea is actually the most important AOC region in southern Greece, where the famous Agiorghitiko grape is originated. The diverse terroir here helps to create various styles of Agioghitiko. You can find hundred year-old vines here planted on native rootstocks, which produces wines with deep red color, complex aromas and long, velvety palate. 

 

除了的獅子座和Hercules的神話故事,Nemea其實是希臘南部最重要的AOC。著名的Agiorghitiko葡萄正起源於此。多樣的風土有利創造不同風格的Agioghitiko。這裡種植著百歲葡萄藤,釀出深紅、香氣複雜、柔和而悠長的口感。

Santorini

 

 

The island in the middle of the Aegean sea enjoys an ideal Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and low rainfall. The volcanic soil, the hydric stress and the strong winds all contribute to the concentration and richness of its unique and world-class Assyrtiko.

 

 

愛琴海中央的島嶼,理想的地中海氣候 —— 溫暖乾燥的夏季,降雨量低。獨一無二的火山土壤、缺水的環境及強風,都有助於其釀造出世界級的Assyrtiko。

 

Mantinia

 

The region stretches in the central eastern part of the Peloponnesian district of Arkadia. With 85% grapes being Moschofilero, wines produced here have two distinct aromatic and flavor profiles. The plateau’s grapes are more aromatic, redolent with rose aromas, while the grapes from the foothills bring forth the aromas of citrus fruit and are rather tangy.

 

由伯羅奔尼撒半島中部延伸至東部。85%葡萄是Moschofilero,有兩種不同的芳香和味道 —— 高原的葡萄比較芳香,散發著玫瑰香氣濃郁;而山麓的葡萄則呈現出柑橘類水果香氣,酸度更怡人。

 

Ionian Islands

 

The beautifully mountainous island of Cephalonia is seen as the heart of the Ionian islands for making new style Greek wines. The Tsaoussi and Robola grapes are the native viticultural treasures along with a few Mavrodaphne and Muscat.

 

美麗的山區小島Cephalonia是Ionian群島的中心,希臘葡萄酒革新的重地。源自當地的Tsaoussi和Robola是Cephalonia的瑰寶,也種有一些Mavrodaphne和Muscat。

Attica (Sterea Ellada)

 

The region of Attica in Sterea Ellada is one of the oldest winemaking areas of Greece. It is here that Dionysus introduced the culture of wine to the Greeks. High sunshine hours and high temperatures mean that grapes ripen quickly, and the retention of acidity can sometimes be a problem for producers. Attica's most famous wine is arguably the strongly flavored resinous wine known as Retsina.

 

Sterea Ellada地區是希臘最古老的釀酒區之一。傳說中酒神狄俄尼索斯在這裡向希臘人傳揚葡萄酒文化。理想的日照時數和溫度,意味著葡萄可快速成熟,因此如何保留酸度是重要課題。Retsina是Attica最享負盛名的葡萄酒。

 

Rapsani (Thessalia)

 

On the southeastern slope of the Olympos Mountains, Rapsani AOC has a iron-rich schist and sunny climate, making it ideal for producing its unique red wine, mainly blends of Xynomavro, Stavroto and Krasato.

 

在Olympos山面向東南的斜坡上,Rapsani AOC富含鐵質的岩土和陽光明媚的風光,非常適合生產其獨特的紅酒,以Xynomavro,Stavroto和Krasato混釀為主。
