Dangal is an Indian biographical sports drama film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. This hearty movie contains various affections between husband and wife, father and daughter, sisters but also the local customs of Indian impoverish town. Meanwhile it also reveals the stiff bureaucracy of the government, the protection of Indian women’s right and other social issues etc., by using wrestling to connect the plots together. The two-hour movie does not have any awkward silence and make me exultant! It is said that the male actor Admir Khan (who is renowned for comedy-drama“3 Idiots”) had sacrificed a lot when he played this role, he gained 28 pounds and a big belly as purpose to play from youth to adult! This movie is adapted from a real-life story, it is about the male protagonist Mahavir is a former national championed wrestler who strongly desires to fight for glory to his country. Sadly, the country does not provide any sport support program for athletes, Mahavir is forced to give up his dream in order to have gainful employment. Originally this ideal man hopes he will have a son to finish his dream by winning a gold medal for India. Disappointed upon having four daughters consecutively, he gives up the hope. But when his discovers older daughters Geeta and Babita inherit his wrestling DNA, he realises their potential to become wrestlers and begins coaching them strictly. Both daughters do not understand their father’s intention at the beginning, they blame Mahavir ruins their happiness of childhood, besides, the residents of the town always depreciate girls and women, their short haircut and short pants is being mocked all the time. That part shows the psychological process of two daughters — from opposes to accept their father’s intention, and notices the vicissitudes of life of Indian poor countryside in India. Very impressive! When the oldest daughter Geeta enters to the national team, her contradiction with father was shot touchingly, and the tension between the daughter and father was very dramatic. Even though I am not familiar with wrestling, I feel very excited for the final international competitions. This movie does not involve many movie techniques, but the straight-forward story telling is very impressive. Thanks to the directors’ wonderful storytelling, this movie is worth to watch!
